On 25 July 2017, the VAFCC Board of Directors unanimously approved the appointment of Michelle Abrams as the first Craig W.C. Brown Curator of the museum’s collections. Ms. Abrams was nominated by the Curator Selection Panel of the Collections Committee after an extensive search. Panel members were COL William Wood, MAJ Bryan Pillai, and Mr. Jim Baker.

Ms. Michelle Abrams recently completed a curatorial internship at the National Guard Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. where her duties included exhibition design, collections management, curatorial work, and PastPerfect data management.   She has also worked at the U.S. Army Historical Foundation where she specialized in researching U.S. Army uniforms and identifying unit associations for materials found in the collection with related duties of fielding historical inquiries from external researchers, assisting with setup of the Association’s military library, and directly supporting the ongoing efforts to establish the National Museum of the U.S. Army at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Michelle’s publications include “The 95th Infantry Division: The Iron Men of Metz” published in On Point: The Journal of Army History.  She holds a Masters Degree in Art History from George Mason University and a Bachelors Degree with honors from Bridgewater State University.  Michelle also completed internships at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston,  and the Wallace L. Anderson Art Gallery.

The Craig W.C. Brown Curatorship is funded by the generous bequest of Mr. Brown from the auction proceeds of his vast and significant weapons and military artifacts collections. The Board and Committee believe that even Craig would have enthusiastically approved of Ms. Abrams’ appointment.

Welcome aboard, Michelle! Monstrat Viam!
