Craig Brown of Cambridge, MA, died on March 2, 2016, at the age of 76. Mr. Brown was a librarian at Boston University Libraries for many years until his retirement in 2005. Mr. Brown also acted as Director of the First Corps of Cadets (FCC) Museum, Boston, from 1970 until his passing, leaving behind many permanent exhibits. Mr. Brown was also instrumental in transferring the manuscript and book collection of the FCC and the Veteran Association of the First Corps of Cadets (VAFCC) to the professional care of the Howard Gotleib Archival Research Center of the Mugar Library at Boston University. The VAFCC/FCC Museum at 227 Commonwealth Avenue is a testament to his creativity and commitment. It was his life’s project. Fixing his memory permanently to the collections that he valued, Mr. Brown bequeathed to the Museum the proceeds of the auctions of his magnificent personal collection of military firearms and artifacts. The proceeds have been invested to fund The Craig W. C. Brown Curatorship. Mr. Brown’s wife, Margaret Goostray of Cambridge, worked with the VAFCC Collections committee to facilitate the auctions and the transfer of the proceeds to the Craig W.C. Brown fund of the VAFCC. Craig’s ashes were interred at a graveside service in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, MA on Thursday, October 6, at 12 pm. Mr. Brown can be said to have lived and died by the motto of the First Corps of Cadets, Monstrat Viam!
